Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Description

This delicious bread pudding is made with French bread and a rich vanilla sauce.


Ingredients

  • 16 oz French bread
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for the sauce)
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for the sauce)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for the sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spray a 9″x13″ baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Cut the French bread into 1″-2″ squares and place in a large bowl.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, stir gently, and let sit for 20 minutes.
  6. Spread the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes until the center is set.
  8. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, whisk together sugar, flour, and heavy cream for the sauce.
  9. Add butter and heat on medium until the butter melts and the mixture starts to boil.
  10. Whisk until thickened, remove from heat, and stir in vanilla.

  • Make sure to cut the bread into uniform pieces for even baking.
