Description
The perfect sweet treat combining crispy rice cereal with salted caramel and chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups crispy rice cereal
- 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 10 oz marshmallows
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Sea salt flakes for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- Make the Caramel Mixture: In a large pot, combine the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and marshmallows. Heat over medium until the mixture is fully melted and smooth. Stir in the salted caramel sauce until well combined.
- Combine with Cereal: Remove from heat and quickly add the crispy rice cereal. Stir until the cereal is evenly coated with the caramel mixture.
- Shape the Bars: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Press down the mixture evenly using a spatula.
- Melt and Drizzle Chocolate: Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the pressed cereal mixture.
- Add Final Touches: Sprinkle sea salt flakes evenly over the chocolate drizzle.
- Set and Serve: Allow the bars to set at room temperature for about 1 hour or until firm. Use parchment overhang to lift the bars from the pan. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can brown the butter slightly before adding the marshmallows.
- Ensure even coating by working quickly with the cereal, as the caramel mixture can harden as it cools.
- Adjust the amount of sea salt to taste; a little goes a long way.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
