Description
A delicious holiday treat combining popcorn, candy canes, and chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 cup mini candy cane pieces (about 10 mini candy canes)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark or white)
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn kernels using an air popper or stovetop method. Allow to cool completely.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together until bubbly. Stir continuously until it boils gently.
- Remove from heat; carefully stir in vanilla extract and baking soda (it will bubble).
- Pour the caramel sauce over the cooled popcorn in a large bowl, gently folding to coat all kernels.
- While still warm, add crushed candy canes and chocolate chips, mixing well.
- Spread the mixture onto a lined baking sheet to cool completely before breaking into clusters.
Notes
- Ensure the popcorn is completely cooled before adding the caramel to prevent sogginess.
- Feel free to substitute different types of chocolate or add nuts for extra flavor.
