Description

Enjoy your delicious Flaky Berry Pastry Squares!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (about 17 oz) puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 cup mixed berry preserves or jam (strawberry, raspberry, or your choice)
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, unfold the puff pastry sheets. Roll them out gently to smooth any creases if needed.
  3. Cut the Pastry: Cut each sheet into even squares, about 4×4 inches, to create a total of 8 squares per sheet.
  4. Fill the Pastry: Place a generous spoonful of berry preserves in the center of each square. Be careful not to overfill to prevent leaking during baking.
  5. Fold and Seal: Fold each square into a triangle by bringing opposite corners together and pressing the edges to seal. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
  6. Egg Wash: Lightly brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg. This will give them a golden, glossy finish.
  7. Bake: Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space between them. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  8. Cool and Dust: Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Berry Variation: Feel free to experiment with different types of jam or preserves to suit your taste.
  • Make-Ahead: You can prepare the pastries and freeze them unbaked. Just defrost slightly and bake when needed.
  • Add a Twist: Consider adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the berry filling for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Serve Warm: These pastries are best served warm and fresh, but they can be reheated in a low oven if needed.
