Description

Enjoy your delightful and colorful candy apple treats!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Red Delicious)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 10 drops red food coloring
  • 10 drops green food coloring
  • Assorted colorful sprinkles
  • Lollipop or popsicle sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax coating.
    • Insert a stick into the top of each apple, ensuring it is secure.
  2. Make the Candy Coating:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
    • Once boiling, reduce to medium heat and allow it to reach 300°F (hard crack stage) without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
  3. Color the Candy Mixture:
    • Divide the candy mixture into two separate bowls.
    • Add red food coloring to one bowl and green to the other, stirring each until fully incorporated.
  4. Dip the Apples:
    • Working quickly, dip each apple into the colored candy mixture, turning to coat evenly.
    • Allow excess to drip off, then roll in assorted sprinkles.
    • Place on a greased baking sheet to set.
  5. Cooling:
    • Let the apples cool completely at room temperature until the candy shell hardens, about 15 minutes.

Notes

  • Ensure sugar mixture reaches the correct temperature for a perfect candy shell.
  • Work quickly when dipping the apples to prevent the candy from setting in the saucepan.
  • Experiment with different colors and sprinkle combinations for varied designs.
