Description

These colorful swirled cookies are not only fun to make but also delicious! Perfect for festive occasions.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 225 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 315 g all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • As needed Red food coloring
  • As needed Green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough – Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until dough forms.
  3. Divide & Color – Divide dough in half. Color one half red and the other green. Wrap each portion and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll & Layer – Roll each dough portion into a rectangle between parchment paper. Stack red dough on top of green dough and gently press together.
  5. Form the Log – Roll tightly into a log. Wrap and chill for another 30 minutes.
  6. Slice & Bake – Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F. Slice dough into ½-inch rounds and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake – Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but not browned. Cool on a wire rack.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is at room temperature for better creaming.
  • Chilling the dough helps in easier slicing and better texture.
