Description

A delicious tart featuring caramelized onions and Gruyère cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 3 large onions (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for caramelizing)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and fit it into a tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork and set aside.
  3. In a frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and salt, cooking slowly until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 25-30 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, eggs, black pepper, and thyme. Stir in the caramelized onions and grated Gruyère cheese.
  5. Pour the onion mixture into the prepared pastry crust.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden.
  7. Allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
